Rhodes Phoenix 凤凰

I managed to squeeze in one more blog before 2009 is over :) Go me!

I am soooo behind in my blogging that I am still 2 blogs behind until I talk about my Christmas dinner and New Years is tomorrow! Gah.

Rhodes Phoenix is a place I went quite a number of times because it is only a 2minute or 15minute walk from my place.  I remember that there were 5 people that celebrated their birthday at Rhodes Phoenix (one being me) - the same place, same time and they were similar in age.  Makes me believe that people born on the same time, day, year share similar life experiences.  I wonder how many people are like me in this world.

Lemon Lime Bitter (Jug) $12

Scallop, Sea Cucumber and Broccoli in Compoy Sauce 瑶柱扒海参西兰花 $32.80

Scallop Fried Rice 瑶柱炒饭 $ 23.80

I always have a hard time picking out all the shallots in fried rice...

String Beans and Preserved Olive 榄菜四季豆 $18.80

Curry Seafood 咖喱海鲜 $28.80

Scallop and Beef Fillet Cubes in Three Cup Sauce 三杯带子牛柳粒 $26.80

I have long heard of three cup sauce but I never managed to try it until then because usually it is eaten with chicken and my family doesn't eat poultry.

So what is Three Cup Sauce (Sanbei)? The It is a sauce made from a cup of soy sauce, cup of rice wine and a cup seseame oil.  Three cup chicken was first originated in Jiangxi Province of China and was made popular in Taiwan. The chicken, together with the sauces, is cooked in an earthenware pot on high heat for ten minutes, then on low heat to allow the sauces to be absorbed by the meat. The dish is usually served in its cooking pot when the sauce has 80-90% evaporated.

Enough said about how is it made, so what is the verdict?  The sauce was packed with flavour! You can taste the soy sauce with sugar and the seseame oil made it smell extra good!  The meat has fully absorbed it's flavour and very tender.  A highly recommended dish!

St. Moritz Chocolate Lounge

After Avatar, we are left in the not yet setted sun in the Australian Summer.  I suggested to eat the mega scoop icecream at French Riviera but they said it was too far. WTF? It is never too far for icecream! Plus that it wasn't even far from IMAX at all.

Somehow everyone was in chocolate mode so we shuffled ourselves to St. Moritz Chocolate Lounge (I thought that all Lindt Cafes closes at 6pm as I've only been to the one on Martin Place but apparently the one at Cockle Bay Wharf closes at 10pm and 12am on Fri and Sat)!! I should've went there :(

Chocolate Fondue (for two) $19.50

I snatched the red forky thingy right away :3
I swear this for two thing is bs as I can easily clear this by myself.

I loved the arrangement of strawberries, bananas and mashmallows<3

I expected both a milk and dark chocolate fondue just like Max Brenner but I was wrong :(

Churros with Dipping Chocolate $8.90

On the menu it said Churros with HOT CHOCOLATE.  I thought it came with a cup of hot chocoalte. I was wrong again!! Turned out to be dipping chocolate =.=/// I thought dipping chocolate was a given when ordering churros.

Mother Chu's Taiwanese Gourment 朱妈妈台湾小吃

I have been slow in the blogging scene as I am currently rennovating the whole house!  My room is now in shades of pink and beige.

Lunch at Mother Chu's Taiwanese Gourment just before watching Avatar at IMAX.

Cold Soy Milk 冻豆奶 $2.20

Beef Noodles 牛肉面 $8

Fried Dough Stick wrapped in Egg and Shallot Pancakes 蛋饼加油条 $5

Preserved Seaweed 拌芽菜 $4.80

Minced Pork Noodles 鲁肉面 $7

Pan Fried Dumplings 锅贴 $8

The food is not that great at Mother Chu's and the service is always horredous but it's a fast, no chit chat fast hot food restaurant that is great when you are short on time.

Something unique about Mother Chu's is that you have to pay after ordering.  I remember my first visit at Mother Chu's and the waitress just stood next to me after I ordered.  I was like uhhh we're done ordering then she said we had to pay now.  I was thinking WTF and why didn't you say anything about it and just stood there? Bad service indeed.

Astral and Carrick Party

I've been going to sooo many parties during the Christmas season which means my mouth and stomach has been getting a good work out as well.

A compliation of the canapes I ate recently and a sneaky way to pay your library fines in half.

Astral Party on 15 Dec

Crabmeat Sandwich, Pork Crackling and Prawn Skewers

Salmon wrapped in a Waffle Cone topped with Caviar, Pacific Oysters

There was alcohol and many more variety of food but I was too busy talking and getting drunk having a sensible drink to take photos.

Carrick Party on 16 Dec

This alcoholic lime punch thingy which I'm addicted to

I think I had at least 3 of this and a red wine fruit punch.  It was just such an refreshing drink to have in Summer with the crushed ice, lime and vodka!

Clockwise from Left: Seared Scallops in dill on a bed of pumpkin puree with pastry shell
Turkey and Cherry
Crisp Bread
Some potato thingy which I didn't like at all (so dry and dull tasting)
Prosciutto
Cracker with Beetroot Salsa and
Kranksy

Clockwise from Left: Turkey and Cherry (again...they are nice!)
Seared Milk Feed Veal with Mozzerella
Calamari with Spicy Polenta Crust and
Prosciutto <3

Clockwise from Left: Lalala my 3rd helping of Prosciutto
Grilled Prawn Skewers with Creamy Tartare Sauce
Semi Sundried Tomatoes

The 16th was the date to get my uni results.  With a deep breath, I logged on to Student Admin to see the two digit number that determines my fate.  I was in shock when I discovered that my results were on suspension as I had unpaid library fees!

OMFG %$^&^)(#^!!!!

I dashed to the library (with difficulty) as I was morbidly obese wearing sky high stilettos and found I had $64 in unpaid fines.  During my years in univeristy, I think I already paid around $100 in library fines.  It's not that I'm a good student and I borrow soooo many books.  It was simply because I never return them.

The kind librarian told me there is this 'scheme' called 'Food for Fines'.  Every packet/can/whatever food you bring will counts towards $3 off your library fines! The other good thing is that the food goes to charity :)

I ran to the nearest supermarket and bought cans of Creamed Corn for only $1.46 which means it was less than HALF of what I should pay for.

Thank you Creamed Corn<3 IOU

Edgell's Creamed Corn $1.46

I dragged the corn back to the library and happily see my fines clearing for half the price.

That must be more than a thousand dollars worth of fines

Lucy's Birthday Party

This is a MASSIVE blog entry because theres a massive amount of food.  It's so massive to the extent that I don't want to blog about it as it would take me agesssss to photoshop and upload.

I started off by pinching chips out from a bowl and haven't stopped eating till I passed out on the bed.

Melting chocolate for the chocolate fountain which...

...led to a fountain of failness...
Clumped up Chocolate

Henry and Silsil trying to remove the chocolate from the fountain because it stopped moving!  Burnt chocolate FTW.

Silsil's Inari

Lucy's cute labradors but...Why are dogs present in a food blog?

It's POPCORN SCHMACKOS! A dog's favourite snack (at least they claim it is)

BLUEBERRY flavoured Vodka Cruiser

Pink Sparkling

I managed to hog the Minnie Cup

There was more alcohol but I forgot to take piccys :(

Lamb Skewers

Satay Chicken Skewers

Honey Soy Chicken Skewers

Sausages (I think they are beef) I didn't eat any

Prawn Skewers

Chicken Wings

More chicken wings!

Sweet Potato

Garlic Bread

Boiled Prawn

Fruit Salad

and...
Bear shaped cake...surrounded by more cakes!

The winner gets to spin for the next round so that's why they are so eager to win but while they are sweating, I was sitting on a chair taking photos of them.  They sometimes let out a painful cry but most of the time they don't even have the energy to scream anymore.

I'm glad that no one took photos of my pathetic self when I attempted to play Pool.
