Cafe De Campbell 金堡餐廳

I have long awaitened the reopening of Cafe De Campbell since its closure due to demolition.

It is sort of like a fusion cafe popularly seen in Hong Kong where they serve western cuisine with an asian twist.

I have always loved their set menus because it came with my much loved Russian borscht, bread roll, drink, main and a dessert.  I'm glad to see they have much more choices on their set menu and I WILL try everyone of them out.

Lemon Iced Tea 冻柠檬茶

HK Styled Iced Milk Tea 冻奶茶

Russian Borscht 罗宋汤

Bread Roll with Butter 小餐包

I love the bread roll as it is soooo soft and have a faint sweet taste.  It tastes like the bread rolls given to you on planes but better since they come warm!

Grilled Pork Chop in Tomato Sauce and Rice 扒猪扒番茄配饭 $12.80

The pork chops are sooo tender and juicy on the inside and I can't believe you get a meal for not even $13.

Self Fried Rice Meal of Wagyu Beef 自烧炒饭 - 雪花和牛肉 $13.80

A rice island surrounded by egg and thin slices of wagyu beef ($14 for wagyu beef? Comon that's so cheap!) made my eyes lit up when this sizzling dish was brought to the table.  I quickly snapped a picture and started to mix the ingredients together hoping that the egg did not burn underneath.

I think this is Soy Sauce, meant to be poured into the fried rice.

Egg Jelly 蛋花果冻

The dessert was brought up when the tables are cleared and I stared at this dessert trying to figure out what it was.  I took a scoop, observed and placed it in my mouth.  Tasted like egg.  My brother didn't believe it was egg so we had a bet on who was right.  I had to hail a waiter to the table and ask what it was.  He had to check with the kitchen and get back to me which was pretty embarrassing.  As usual, I'm always right.

Birthday at Lotus Pond 芙蓉阁, 85 Degree C

My brother's birthday dinner at Lotus Pond (again).

His favourite dishes of peking duck and steamed scallops are ordered but to me, abalone always comes first!

Apple Juice (Jug) $20

Some apple juice to start off with to crunch my thirst!!

Internal Decor

The red lanturns gave some of my pictures a redish hue :(

And here comes the abalone!

Green Lip Abalone Slices 白灼绿唇鲍鱼 $214

Thinly sliced abalone boiled in soup for a couple of seconds until it curls up then it is served with a special dipping sauce.

Boiled Abalone

Vegetables are later placed in the soup to cook then served.

Steamed Barramundi with Ginger and Shallot 清蒸盲朝 $56

Beef and Cashews 黑椒牛柳粒 $32

Hokkien Fried Rice 福建炒饭 $32

Seafood Noodle Soup 海鲜汤面 $23

I hate egg noodles but I had to eat it since it was substitute for my brother's 'Long Life Noodles'.

No birthday is complete without cake!

I made 3 calls to 85 Degrees C for this special cake to be made because it was orginally a strawberry filling but my brother is...well...allergic to strawberry.  Many calls were made to discuss the change of filling and even the shop attendants were going insane.

Baba Sheep Cakie $38 + $3 for Birthday Tag 羊咩咩蛋糕

The face was originally pink too! But for the sake of my brother's health and wellbeing, it is now white.

He wanted this cake soooo bad because it held a close resemblence of a cartoon character called 'Happy Sheep'.

Happy 12th Birthday!

Woddles Waffle

A recent Mango Waffle conversation has triggered my brains to remember that I owned a Woddles Waffle maker.  Although a bit tattered and does not work half as well as it used to, I whipped it out for some cute waffle making time!

Woddles

Meet Mr. Woddles, my penguin shaped waffle maker.

Inside Mr. Woddles, two penguin moulds fit snugly together.

Waffle Batter

Fill moulds up!

Mr. Woddles is very old and takes around 20 minutes to make a pair of penguin waffles.

Why doesn't my woddles have any beak?

Plated Woddles

Plated my waffles with a scoop of cookies and cream icecream in their belly, blueberries and lots and lots of maple syrup~mmm....

Too much batter...

I used 300g of flour and...that created around 3x waffles =.=///  I should've cut that amount in half so I spent around 3hours or  more cooking those waffles. *sigh*

Mango Lassi $3.20

A special picture of my beloved drink: Mango Lassi :D

Rhodes Phoenix 凤凰

I went to Rhodes Phoenix again despite my recent last visit.  The place is just too convieniently located and tasted too nice to go anywhere else.

Starting off with my brother's favourite.

Beef Fillet Cubes with Wasabi Sauce  日式牛柳粒 $23.80

The delicately tender beef cubes are accompanied with a tingly wasabi taste creating such a marvelous dish.  For chips lovers, it also comes with some pringles!

Deep Fried Calamari with Salt and Chilli  椒盐鲜鱿 $20.80

Although it said fried calamari, it also came with fried prawns which tasted better than the calamaris anyway!  And is it weird to like the crispy seaweed more than the star ingredient?

String Beans with Preserved Olives  榄菜四季豆 $18.80

I usually have string beans with Malay sauce or XO sauce but the preserved olives tasted so much better.  It is not as heavy as the Malay sauce and not as salty as the XO sauce...plus it's olives~sounds so much healthier already.

Scallops Fried Rice 带子炒饭 $23.80

When this dish arrived, I was busy pinching my iphone back from my brothers hand and did not realise that the waiter was distributing the rice into our bowls.  The dish lost its little 'mountain peak' so I had to squish the remants together to make it look better =.=/// Such fail.

Steamed Barramundi with Ginger and Shallot 蒸盲曹 $32.80 (I think. lol...)

Fried Milk Buns and Purple Sticky Rice Soup

Tempted by the foods from the nightmarket, I had the sudden urge to make purple sticky rice soup and so I went to buy some purple sticky rice and condensed milk.

To accompany that, fried milk buns were made and we ended up having a very sweet dinner.

Steamed Milk Buns

The Frying Process

Fried Buns

I steamed the buns to speed up the frying process but if you want it extra crispy on the outside, it is best to fry it cold/frozen as it takes more time to heat up the inside.

Mmm...Condensed Milk

While that was frying, we had the purple sticky rice soup on simmer.

The soup is extremely easy to make.  Only ingredients needed are purple sticky rice, sago, water and coconut milk.  Simmer the rice, sago and water together until thickened then add coconut milk to simmer some more.

Swirl in some condensed milk
