Baroque Bistro

Ello boys and girls~how was your Easter break? I would say 3 of my 5 days of holiday was spent sleeping and the other 2 on eating and watching tv...or both at the same time :D  Hope yours was much more productive than mine but I can definitely say that I caught up on my sleep and totally reversed my day around aka, sleeping at 6am and waking at 6pm...*cough*

I've been writing this post ever since the 20th but work was just hectic before Easter, then I slept through my holidays and after Easter was hectic again :( It's better late than never right?

I've read many blog posts about Baroque Bistro Patisserie but never had the time or opportunity to visit.  Going to La Renaissance (yet to blog about that) for dessert definitely made my will to dine there ever most strongly.  So! The opportunity came up when we decided to close the office on Saturday and go out to eat.  Had a little debate over Cafe Ish and Baroque Bistro and the latter won.

Wine Menu

Pineapple and Cranberry Juice

I love the cerise pink colour of this juice! This is not on the menu but my mum just like to make other people's lives difficult.  They were happy to make a special mix by her request and I think they got the ratio just right with a slightly sweet and refreshingly sour taste.

Chai Latte $4.50

I always go gaga over fancy stuff they do on top of my drink.  The heart is just so cute and I can't bare to ruin it.  I sipped carefully, trying to retain its shape but then my mum (who also likes to ruin everything) took a massive gulp and it was GONE! :( That was pretty much the most exciting stuff that happened to me that day since my life is so boring.

Fresh Baguettes with Olive Oil (Complimentary)

A bowl of fluffy fresh baguettes with olive oil was brought to our table while we waited for our food. Oh the evil baguettes! We ate so much of it that we didn't manage to finish our mains let alone have room for dessert which I was really looking forward to :(

Half Dozen of Sydney Rock Oysters with Eschallot Vinaigrette $3.50 ea

Can never go past super fresh and chilled oysters with vinaigrette!

Plate of House Made Charcuterie $16

Clockwise from left: Bangalow pork terrine, saucisson, pickles, prosciutto and pork rillettes.

A thick thick slab of pork terrine, slices of saucisson, multiple shavings of prosciutto and super fat scoop of pork rillettes.  You have to admit that pigs is a magical animal<3 This is my porkie heaven.

Kingfish Ceviche, Shaved Organic Vegetables, Avocado and Basil $19

My favourite dish of the day as it had super fresh pieces of kingfish with its refreshing sour taste and plated beautifully with colourful shaved vegetables.

Steak Frites with House Rose Wine $25 (Saturday Special)

A 300 day pure angus sounds good with fries and drink! This one is only avaliable on Saturdays so don't come on other days if you want this lol! The steak is cooked perfectly with it being prettily pink in the center.  It came with a huge pile of chippies and we had to save the ones under the steak cause it was getting a bit soggy from the eschallot jus but the rest was yummy and crispy :D Oh and it also comes with a glass of house red/rose wine for lunch which is quite a nice deal for $25.

Rose Wine

12 Hour Confit Shoulder of Lamb, Eggplant, Snowpea, Rosemary and Lamb Glaze $29

A nice confit of lamb that appears to be really tough but is actually quite tender.

Fruits De Mer $25

I love the name of the dish as fruits de mer is French for 'fruits of the sea'.  It is a seafood dish that is traditionally made from cooked and raw shellfish.  The version at Baroque added in rock fish and was served warm which was very interesting as I was expecting it to be cold...even ice cold!

Ms G's

Blogging about Ms G's today, and the chef of the restaurant just happens to be Dan Hong...again!  It feels like I'm doing a Dan Hong special lately because the last 3 posts out of 4 was about his restaurant.

I had a choice of blogging about La Renaissance Patisserie or Ms G's but making 3 posts in a row about nothing but sugar will make my readers think I'm some crazy b!tch, so Ms G's it is.

Still recovering my crazy sugar overdose at the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Lunch on Saturday, we went to Potts Point the next day for Ms G's. Yeah, we're insane.

We waited outside the restaurant from 12:30 till 1 when it opened and the place was filled shortly, talk about popular!

I was super excited about their alcoholic bubble tea because I just happen to love bubble tea and an alcoholic...so I have to try it out!

Pina 'Pearls' Colada $14

Appleton VX and Havana Club Blanco rum, pineapple, coconut, yogurt sorbet with little green pearls.

There is a Ms G doll 'cup sealing thingy' with a red dot as a mouth, indicating where you should pierce your fat straw through, but it gave me dirty thoughts...*cough*

Green Iced Tea $13

Zubrowka vodka, Cloud and Mist tea, grapefruit bitters, green apple and soda.

Choya Cobbler $12

Choya plum wine, Ramos port, strawberries, oranges, limes and lemons.

Mini bánh mì- crisp pork belly $6 each

Oh boy, look at that fat chunk of pork belly.  It had a crunchy layer of crackling with tender meat.  I was so sad when I finished it :( Wish I had more.

Buddha’s Delight - A Textural Vegetarian Salad $14

My favourite dish of the day! It consists of (but not limited to) shredded carrots, coriander, mushrooms, julienned seaweed, pressed tofu, cucumber, bean sprouts, cashews and dressed with vinegar jelly.  It's a very refreshing dish with a hint of sourness to really entice your appetite.

Prawn Toast, Yuzu Aioli and Herbs $14

Super duper crunchy sourdough stuffed with prawn mince and topped with yuzu aioli, mint and coriander.

Vietnamese Steak Tartare with Prawn Crackers $18

Steak tartare, Vietnamese style. A sprinkle of dried shrimp on top, mixing in some coriander and replacing the usual croutons with prawn crackers brings an interesting twist to this dish.

Fried Baby Chicken with Kimchi Mayonnaise $25 (whole)

Succulent chicken with a crispy, crunchy skin already sounds drool worthy but wait, dip these babies in the kimchi mayonnaise and it's delicious on another level. As much as we liked the dish, it was just too much for 3 people and it was kinda torturous to finish everything off towards the end.  Should've just got half of the chicken instead of the whole thing.

It was a pretty enjoyable meal throughout until we asked for the bill.  Our bill came to $130 with a $55 discount? Confused, but no one is going to reject a discount right? We hailed the waitress to come and collect our payment but she didn't even look at us and said "wrong bill" then walked away.  Our little hearts was crushed and felt like a slap on the face.  It wasn't the greatest feeling :/

She came back with the bill with no discount.  We didn't mind paying the full amount, but it would've been nice if she was apologetic to the fact she presented us with the wrong bill or explained the situation to us.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Lunch at Lotus

Ello everyone! I had a massive sugar overdose at Lotus on 2 April cause it was the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Lunch by Dan Hong!

I thought it would be savoury dishes with 'wacky sweet elements' but nooooooo~~~its sugar all the way! WHOOH!

The place was decorated with colourful candy, pretty flowers and crazy liquid bubbling away like it was in a mad scientist's lab.

Quirky science meets candy<3

Oh how much I drooled over the menu...

'Russian Spyder'

Coke spyder with Vodka and Kahlua hehe. The wimps (and kiddos) went for the lemonade with icecream option.

Blueberry Inspired by Violet Beauregarde

Our eyes could not peel off the bubbling apple consomme with dry ice. Such awesomeness! It was then gently poured around our blueberry sorbet.

Ohhhhhh~look at the blue colour leaking off into the consomme.  After a while, the whole puddle was blue. It also dyed our tongue, teeth and mouth blue.  Soon, the entire restaurant are all laughing at each other and being the cam whore that I am, took snaps of myself.

Blue Tongue!

Ice Cream Sandwich

This is not your ordinary ice cream sandwich. Yummy chocolate brownies sandwiched two fat scoops of peach ice cream and a layer of fresh strawberries. To make that even more awesome, it was then sprinkled with pretty pink tart strawberry powder.

'Golden Eggs'

Look at that roasted milk chocolate go! I don't even know how you can roast milk but it sure tasted awesome with a hint of salted caramel taste.

Dehydrated chocolate meringue, mango puree and roasted white chocolate river. mmm...We hassled the waiter to find out what they did to make a pretty skin for the mango puree and it is a very complex culinary process called 'spherification'.

Look at the pretty little golden ball. Put the whole ball in your mouth and you can feel a 'pop' sensation just like a caviar except your mouth would be filled with yummy mango puree. :D

Chocolate and Mandarin 'Surprise'

Super creamy chocolate ganache with mandarin fizz and mandarin jelly.  The 'surprise' was hidden pop rocks underneath the chocolate ganache.  It was a combination of smooth chocolate and little fireworks bouncing in my mouth.  So awesome! The mandarin fizz reminded me of those fizzy Lifesaver candies in a much creamier form.

Oompa Loompa Ice Cream Sundae with 'Chocolate River'

Ohhhhh~chocolate river! I thought it would be like Heston's chocolate water but sadly it  wasn't :( but oh well! This one is still very awesome.

There are many elements on this dish: pandan ice cream, chocolate chip cookies, honey comb, pretzels, peanuts, marshmallows, raspberry sauce and hot chocolate fudge as the river.  It really kind of resembles the overwhelming feeling when the children first saw what's inside of Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory.

By this time, I really had trouble breathing due to an overdose on sugar and not to mention that I'm super full.  Miss. S is crazy and finished off everyone's plate with indications that she can eat more...much more...

 Take home goodie bag!

Oh yay! Everyone gets a goodie bag filled with, yups, more candy!

At first, we discussed about going to KFC and try their double down to 'neutralise' the sweetness but after all that food, I could barely even move.  The double down has to wait.

High Tea at Swisshotel

A very last minute decision to go to High Tea was made in the comfort of my bed.  Started texting at 10am and we arrived at the Swisshotel at 2pm.  It was a weekend so this means it was a High Tea buffet.  Awesome.

I was overjoyed with the amount of pretty cakes placed on a very long table with a three tiered chocolate fountain pumping out liquid chocolate.  I felt like being in Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory (and I will blog about the awesome lunch at Lotus in the next post: 5 courses of sweetastic fun) and wasted no time to start picking out my loot.

I started with the savouries first which is a selection of sammiches.

 Double Smoked Ham Pin Wheels
Ham, Cheese and Tomato Sandwich

Chicken Breast in Tarragon Mayonnaise Sandwich
Smoked salmon Pin Wheel
Tomato and Cucumber Sandwich

There are other savouries like bacon and gruyere and vegetarian quiche but I am saving my stomach for more important things...the cakes :)

A Selection of Twinings Tea

I tried to change a flavour every time I finished a cup but after a while, everything kinda tasted the same... I'm also a bit sad that the tea are not loose leaf :(

Chocolate Fountain with a Selection of Fruit, Chocolate Brownies and Marshmallows

Goats Cheese Marshmallows, Confit Lemon

Petite Meringue with Citrus Curd

Soft, Sticky Nougat

Coffee Cheesecake

Basil Cake with Picked Strawberries

Chocolate Mousse, Cupcakes, Lindt Chocolate Creme Brulee

Madeira Cake

Chocolate Cake

Raspberry Cheesecake, Jam Donut,  Creme Caramel

My Loot

Super Duper Cute Cupcake!!! *love love*

Had to take a photo with it!

Thanks you Miss. G for taking the photo :)

Berry Custard with Vanilla Creme

Creme Caramel, Scones, Chocolate Dipped Fruits

Mwahahhah!! Look at the amount of chocolate dipped fruits I took.

I managed to try almost everything on display and was rubbing my belly, on the verge of explosion but hey! I am very satisfied.
