Pony Lounge and Dining

My usual day is reading my twitter and looking up places to eat with my lovely food bloggers (oh and work goes somewhere in between). I've stumbled upon a 'Ladies Lunch' menu from Pony Lounge and Dining and a lunch date is arranged!

Now, this happened a while ago when the weather was still warm but after a crazy weekend, I'm now sick at home on a Monday. Cause of that, I can now peacefully write up my blog, tactically hold my icecream in my mouth while typing and painfully spurting out a few coughs and sneezes at the same time. Don't judge.

The lovely Miss J is a carnivore and was hyped up in ordering the 'Boys Lunch' which was bombarded with meaty goodness but she doesn't like lamb so in the end, ordered the 'Ladies Lunch' with us.

For $55pp, we got the following:

Sangria (or you can choose a glass of Rose)

Pan Seared Calamari, Rocket, White Beans and Chilli with Saffron Aioli

The calamari had this lovely smokey flavour which I enjoyed very much and coupling it with the saffron aioli was perfect.

Sydney Rock Oyster with Lemon and Vinegar Condiments

Sadly we only got one oyster each.  I want moreeeee, Moreeee!!

Aged Goat Tartlete, Caramelised Onion and Roasted Beetroot

Loved every bit of this but the pastry was the best with its super fluffiness and crispiness.  Sadly this tart was shared amongst two people.  I could've easily demolished it all myself.

Blanched Asparagus, Salted Ricotta, Pinenuts, Salsa Verde and Lemon

Ok, the little green squiggles of salsa verde doesn't look very appetising and it resembled tiny catepillars in my opinion but don't let it put you off! It tasted great! The crispy asparagus, smooth salted ricotta, crunchy pinennuts, zesty salsa verde and a hint of sourness from the lemon eaten together was oh so good.

Spinach and Potato Gnocchi, Woodside Goats Curd, Kalamata Olives and Pinenuts

Another ill looking dish but the dishes at Pony really like to surprise you with their flavours.  After the tiny entrees, I was still very very hungry but this really filled me up in the end.  Looking past the weird green coloured gnocchi, it was soft and fluffy with a melt in your mouth texture.  'Don't judge a book by it's cover'. Agreed.

Leaf Salad, Avocado and Grape Tomatoes

This salad is the side dish of the gnocchi.  It was great for neutralising the heavy gnocchi.

Chef's Dessert Tasting Platter

A platter of creme brulee, two scoops of vanilla icecream, four chocolate brownies, four biscottis and trifle.

Hum...are you sure? We have four people here and why do we only have ONE creme brulee and ONE trifle? I hailed the waitress to ask and she said that's what we get for four people. So does that mean for two people, you only get half a brulee and trifle? I'm not impressed at all.

Four raspberries and four wedges of figs on top of a trifle = for four people?

Fisherman's Wharf Seafood Restaurant 渔人码头海鲜酒家

A massive food blogger yum cha meet up was organised on a warm autumn morning.  There was a lot of worry in regards to my appearance as everyone knew that I don't usually wake up until the sunsets... I made it!! but I was still the last one to arrive and was shocked to see that they pieced 3 tables together to accommodate us.

My inner Asianness sprung out and I wasn't shy to ask for my favourite foods.

Phoenix Claw

I knew that they are very popular in all yum cha venues so you have to ask the waiter/ess for them to bring it over to your table or good luck waiting! Unless, you are seated right next to the kitchen where they bring out all the food then that doesn't apply.

A special mention to Melanie for trying it out...and enjoying it! :D (you can see two of my piccies in her post)...yups, I'm the fat one :)

BBQ Pork Buns

Red Bean Pastry

Deep Fried Taro Puff

 Rice Noodle Roll with Prawn

Pork Spare Ribs with Black Bean Sauce

Gailan (Chinese Broccoli) with Oyster Sauce

Mango Pudding

When I order my mango pudding, I always request for extra condensed milk on top but some people are weird and don't like it :( I guess they're good for photo taking though.

Egg Tart

Mango Pancake

The bill came to a shocking $643.40 but once shared between the 24 of us, it came down to $27 each. *phew*.

Buttermilk Scones for Mother's Day

Hihi everyone, long time no see.  Once again, I'm going to blame my lack of posts to work but this time, blogger has failed on me too.  I was all ready to blog and all but then my blog died and when it was back up, I had no time to blog again.  Nope, I'm never going to blame it on how I'm very lazy and how I spent the past two weeks buying crap online.

Anyway! Happy belated Mother's Day to all the mummies out there<3 I hope everyone had a great day and I also hope every kiddos made your mother feel extra special that day :)

I bought my mum some pink carnations, my brother made a bouquet of origami roses and we made some scones together.

Buttermilk Scones
Recipe from taste.com.au

Ingredients:

3 1/2 cups of self raising flour
2 tablespoons of caster sugar
60g of butter, chopped (we used 70g)
1 1/2 cups of buttermilk
Jam and whipped cream to serve

1.Preheat ovento 220°C or 200°C for fan forced.

2. Place flour, sugar and a pinch of salt in a large bowl. Add butter. Using fingertips, rub butter into flour mixture until mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs.

3. Make a well in the centre. Add buttermilk then using a flat bladed knife, stir until dough almost comes together. Place on a lightly floured surface.

Pour buttermilk in well and stir until a dough forms

4. Knead gently until dough comes together. Press out to a 3cm thick round. Dip a 5 cm round cutter into flour to prevent dough sticking. Cut out scones. Gently press leftover dough pieces together and repeat to make a total 16 scones.
Note: We used a 4cm round cutter and it made approximately 28 scones.

5. Place scones in pan. Bake for 15 to 17 minutes or until light golden and hollow when tapped on top. Serve with jam and cream.

Buttermilk Scones

Now, we didn't put the trays in properly so we stuffed the scones on the utter top shelf of the oven, Big mistake.  The scones were quite brown *cough burnt cough* when we took it out.  Luckily, mum likes stuff that are crunchy and a bit burnt so that was crisis resolved.

Beerenberg Jams

My brother quickly whipped up some cream with his muscly man arms while the scones were cooling but I forgot to take a picture :(
