Din Tai Fung 鼎泰豊

Din Tai Fung 鼎泰豊

Last week, I was treated to a meal at Din Tai Fung and I was spoilt for choice since they let me choose anything on the menu. Helloooo dumplings!

I quickly ticked the boxes for their famous dumplings and their new special dessert called Golden Lava.

Of course, I need some drinks to slosh everything down and they were quickly brought to the table.

Blue Coral Italian Soda $4

The drink tasted a bit like a Ramune - a Japanese lemonade famous for their glass marble opening mechanism and I quite liked their glistening blue colour!

 Lychee Mint Freeze $6.80

A very refreshing slushie styled drink filled with crushed lychee and mint. I really liked the taste and it's one of their recommended drinks.

Vegetarian Delight $6.80

A zesty and fresh appetiser of vegetarian goodies with a dash of black vinegar is a perfect way to get your taste buds moving for the mains to come.

Steamed Pork Dumplings 小笼包 8 for $12.80 (or 6 for $10.80)

Super juicy pork dumplings that creates a dip when lifted because it is filled with delicious porky juice.

To eat, dip the dumpling in vinegar, hold the dumpling with your spoon, poke a hole on top to let the steam out and eat! It will totally blow your socks off.

Vegetable and Pork Dumpling 菜肉蒸饺 6 for $10.80

Steamed dumplings filled with a mix of spinach and pork mince.

Crab Meat and Roe Dumplings 蟹粉小笼包 8 for $19.80 (or 6 for $17.80)

A limited dumpling filled with crab meat and roe. It has a slightly red tinge on the outside to reflect how thin the skin it so you get maximum taste of the inside.

Crab Meat and Roe Dumpling

Dip the dumpling in vinegar with a few strands of ginger to create a perfect combination.

Braised Beef Soup 红烧牛肉汤 $12.80

Perfectly braised beef with a flavoursome soup and generous amount of noodles.  I've tried this at The Star but the one at World Square triumph it by far.

Golden Lava 金沙包 3 for $6 (or 1 for $2.20)

The new dessert on the Din Tai Fung menu. Lava buns are a new craze for yum cha places but the one at Din Tai Fung is a sweet savoury dessert.  The Golden Lava is made of soft pillowy dough filled with duck egg custard, which oozes out when bitten into. The wheat flour dough is plump and light as air - it literally melts in your mouth.

Oozy Golden Lava

Now you know what I mean.  It's a must order for dessert!

Mango Pudding with Fresh Mango Slice 鲜切芒果布丁 $8.80

How could you leave an Asian restaurant without mango pudding? A delicious and bouncy mango pudding with fresh cubes of mango, generous swirl of whipped cream and a shot of condensed milk on the side so you put in as little or as much of them in as you want.

You can also have mango pudding without the fresh mangoes on top for $6.80.

Overall, I had a great experience at Din Tai Fung. The food was great, service was top notch and I would definitely come back for more pork dumplings and golden lava.

*Sugarpuffi dined as a guest of Din Tai Fung complimentary of Rose and Vera.

Peter Doyle @ The Quay

This is from an Ouffer voucher from wayyyyyyyyyy back in June 2011.  The voucher is $79 for a three course seafood menu for two at Peter Doyle.

Although it was in mid winter, it was a fairly sunny morning so we chose to sit outside and got to fully observe the view.

Opera House

There was two choices for entree so we chose one each.  The first one is a Trio of Tasmanian Salmon.

Vodka and Orange Cured Salmon with Fennel

Two fresh rolls of cured salmon which was a zesty and refreshing way to start a meal.

 Smoked Salmon Lettuce Roll

Salmon covered with a layer of cream cheese then wrapped in lettuce and sided with diced pickles.

Confit of Salmon Belly with Baby Beet Salad

A fatty chunk of salmon belly coupled with a light baby beet salad.
Scallops

Scallops with truffle scented cauliflower and raisin caper dressing.

Grilled Barramundi Fillets

Grilled barramundi fillets with coconut sauce, kafir leaves served with Asian greens. An Western dish with an Asian twist.  The grilled barramundi was soft and tender and went very well with the hot coconut sauce, perfect for a Winter's day.

Fried Barramundi Fillets

Golden fried barramundi fillets in beer batter and served with potato chips.  I heard Peter Doyle is famous for their fish and chips but I really didn't think there was anything spectacular about them.

Passionfruit Brulee Tart

Passionfruit brulee tart served with double cream.
